Pelion, the mountain of the Centaurs
Pelion is a mountain in the Prefecture of Magnesia next to the city of Volos, with a height of 1,624 meters (peak Pourianos Stavros). According to Greek mythology, it was the summer residence of the gods and the homeland of the Centaurs.
Pelion, the legendary mountain of the Centaurs, is a stunning combination of mountainous and seascape, which rises imposingly northeast of Volos. It is a tourist destination all year round, with a dense network of hiking trails and coves with small or large beaches with sand or pebbles.
In Pelion there are over 40 villages and settlements built with traditional Pelionite architecture. Some are more picturesque, others are more agricultural and less touristically developed, some are inaccessible, others are more stately and wealthy, some are large, built amphitheatrically on imposing slopes that attract the attention and admiration of the traveler from afar, while others are small and shy and prefer to remain invisible, hidden in the lush vegetation.
There are a multitude of rooms for rent, guesthouses, hotels, all beautiful for their architecture, their gardens, their local color. And all around there are taverns, restaurants, cafes, and even bars. All spotlessly clean, organized, and fully equipped to satisfy even the most demanding taste. The locals are hospitable and kind, always willing to treat you to a tsipouro, a spoon dessert, coffee, fruit, or to answer your questions and give you directions.

Pelion can be divided into four parts, so as to facilitate your search for its villages. The northern part of Pelion includes villages such as Kamari and Veneto. The eastern side, which includes the coastal villages of Tsagarada, Papa Nero and Agios Dimitrios. The western side, which includes villages such as Amaliapoli, Anchialos and Pigadi and finally the southern side, which includes the city of Volos and villages of central Pelion, as well as from its southern coast, villages such as Kala Nera, Trikeri, Platanias and Mikro.
The village of Chania
Chania is a small settlement in one of the highest points of Pelion. Built at an altitude of 1,200 meters, surrounded by beech and chestnut forests, only 2 km from the “Agriolefkes” ski center (1,529 m.), they are an ideal base for your winter holidays.
Chania is a magical place in winter and summer. The colors change every season and there are many who believe that it is a blessed place. They are a passage from eastern Pelion that overlooks the city of Volos to its western part that overlooks the Aegean Sea.
Chania is a small settlement in one of the highest points of Pelion. They are built at an altitude of 1,200 meters, surrounded by beech, fir and chestnut forests. In the old days it was a resting and resupply station for merchants and travelers, who found accommodation in the inns, from which the name of the village came.
Nowadays it continues to enchant and excite visitors, since it is an oasis of coolness in the summer and a refuge in the winter. It is mainly famous for the ski center they have in Agriolefkes, which is located only 2 km away at an altitude of 1,529 m.
